Type of tax

Vehicle tax / 自動車税

Eligible for those who own a car as of April 1 of each year.
This is a system in which one year's worth (from April to March) is paid in advance.
By completing to get rid of a vehicle procedure, an amount equivalent to the remaining period will be refunded.
※There is no refund for vehicle tax on small car as it is paid annually.

Vehicle weight tax / 自動車重量税

A tax on the weight of the vehicle, payable at the time of new vehicle registration and vehicle inspection.
The system is based on the payment of 3 years' worth of fees at the time of new car registration, and 2 years' worth of fees (1 year for vehicles with 1-year inspection) at the time of vehicle inspection in other cases, paid in advance.
By completing the permanent cancellation registration process, an amount equivalent to the remaining term will be refunded.

Mandatory vehicle liability insurance / 自賠責保険

Liability insurance is designed to provide bodily injury protection in the event of a traffic accident, and all vehicles are required to have it.
